You have been so amazing through this whole craziness.
And to those of you who this is the first time hearing about it, let me tell you.
We had a fire.
I talk about it HERE but here's the gist of the damage.
It was a shocking fire, the kind that the fire department didn't understand, trying to figure out how there could be a sudden electric current that managed to make an entire room go up in flames in just a few minutes.
But they figured it out, and let me tell you-mattresses are really flammable!
As are clothes, closets, wooden beds, scarves-all the things that were directly by that outlet.
So ok, everything burned.
Ash, grime, soot, everything.
No more clothes, bed, jewelery, computer, furniture.
But you know what's the craziest part of all of it?
The tiny miracles.
So here's one-Just last week, I was practicing in my room. It is my FAVORITE room to practice in, because it's all wood and I love the vibe and it's just an awesome room.
And then my downstairs neighbor knocks on the door, and asks if I wouldn't mind moving to a different room-it's summer vacation for her, she's studying in the room directly under me and it's a little much.
So I grumble and think a few bad thoughts, and move my violin, audio interface, microphones, camera, bags, and stands into the furthest room from where the fire eventually was. And everything is absolutely fine-which is the crazy, amazing part! I am just exploding with gratitude!
Next, none of us had any smoke damage injuries. In the living room, I hadn't even noticed the fire or the smell of fire-I was so wrapped up in my conversation when it happened. If it had just gone a few minutes longer, the smoke could have seriously damaged one of my kids lungs. Seriously miraculous.
Third, It happened when I was awake, and also when most of the street was awake to run to our aid. The whole building needed to be cleared out, and nobody was sleeping yet.
Fourth, it happened when we weren't in the room. If we had been in the bed, there was a 100% chance of skin burning. 100%. As it were, there was absolutely no need for a hospital or an inhaler. We are so lucky!
Fifth, there is some kind of amazing high from being in a terrifying situation and getting out of it. Right now, I feel pretty insanely invincible. I'm pretty sure nothing could possibly knock me down right now. I'm like ok, I'm going to run for president. Maybe of the US. They could use someone like me.
Sixth, my brother is, quite frankly, a copywriting genius. He offered to make the generosity funding page, and people have been pouring in to help us. I like to think it's because I am so wonderful and people want to help, but more likely it's because this is what he does for a living and he's a true professional.
Seventh, I live in an amazing city. My landlords didn't have insurance (and neither did we!), and the city is going to help us with everything to get us back home.
Eighth, I live in an amazing community, and have amazing neighbors with connections with the city council, who convinced them to help me like that.
Ninth, we are moving into an old-age home tomorrow. I know that's not ideal, we want to go home, but I love the elderly-so much to learn from them!! We are hoping to have a chance to play music for them and be big balls of light inside the place. I want them to ask us to move in and have a permanent job being the happiness makers of the place. Is that a job? Probably not, but I'm excited in any case, they seem like generally pretty dreary places, and I love exposing my kids to new possible Bubbies and Zaides
Tenth, people have offered us LITERALLY everything we need. People have come with sacks of clothes and food, and we've had offers of furniture-literally everything. We have a saying in hebrew "Ma Rabu Maasecha Hashem"-which means "How great are your wonders, God". I don't know where it's from, I'm not good at remembering sources, but I LITERALLY am stunned at the amount of people who have reached out to me. Thank you SO MUCH!
Shoot I have about ten more. I'm not going to keep going-I'm tired, and I just wanted to tell you-you have so much blessing RIGHT NOW. Seriously! Please take a minute and make your list. And right now, just to remind you, I have literally one pair of earrings. That's a good place to start (as in, if you need to compare yourself to someone pathetic in order to do this exercise)
So think of that, and if you are so inclined, please head over to our fundraising page, every little bit helps, and you are bringing us back to life.
